Who is Hands on
Greenville?
Hands On Greenville, founded in 1994 with the
goal of creating, organizing, and leading
meaningful service projects that positively
impact Greenville County. Hands On Greenville is
unique in that we extend programs beyond
simple agency referral. Hands On Greenville
guides the entire service experience,
transforming an initial interest in helping into
a meaningful service experience. The keys to our
success are the unique services we offer to
every volunteer.
We develop more than 200 monthly volunteer projects in
partnership with over 300 community-based
agencies in Greenville including Meals on Wheels, Loaves and
Fishes, Diligent Hands & Gracious Hearts, Paris
Mountain State Park, Camp Opportunity, Camp
Spearhead, Safe Harbor and Pendleton Place. We
then recruit and manage teams of volunteers to
staff those projects.
We ask that all of our volunteers attend a brief
orientation session at the Hands On Greenville office before
volunteering at one of our projects. At this
meeting, you will learn all about Hands On
Greenville and our
projects. Once you find a project that interests
you, simply sign-up online or contact the Project Coordinator for
details -- then start volunteering!
How many
hours will I be required to give?
There is no minimum requirement to volunteer. You can help out as much as you are able.
Our projects are designed for busy people who
have a limited amount of time available. We
recognize that some months you may have
unlimited time, while other times you may have
only an hour to spare.
What if I
sign up for a project and can’t make it?
We understand that last minute emergencies may
make it impossible for you to attend a project
for which you have registered. We ask that if you can’t
make it, please contact the Project coordinator
to let him or her know. There may be time to recruit
someone to take your place.
Are there
special events that require less time?
Hands On Greenville does have several special events throughout
the year including Hands On Greenville Day (HOG DAY),
South Carolina's largest day of service and our
annual Piggy Bank
Auction. Keep in mind that you can volunteer as
your schedule allows. We are happy to have you
once a year if that’s the only time you can spare.
I feel like I
am a leader; can I be in charge of a
project?
Hands On Greenville is always in need of Project Coordinators,
which means you are the contact person for a
monthly project. If you would like to lead a
project please call the office at 864. 242.4224.
What is The
HandsOn Network?
The
HandsOn Network is a national nonprofit whose
core mission is to equip, mobilize and inspire
people to take action that changes the world.
More information on the organization is at

Hands On Greenville Day (HOG Day) is South
Carolina's largest day of service. In 2008, more
than 2,800 volunteers were
serving
at 94 project sites in Greenville County. It’s hard work, but
lots of fun. Volunteers work for about 4 hours and then we gather for an after party
with food and games. This is also our biggest
fund raiser of the year.
How can I get
my company/youth group/church group
involved?
We can organize a project for most any size
group. Whether you want a one-time event, or
would like to volunteer on a monthly basis, we
have many agencies who could use your help.
Simply call our office at 864-242-4224 and we can find a project that
will work for you.
